Golden Easter Meet

Post by Mike Hogg »

The Easter meet this year may be very popular since there is gold at Tyndrum http://www.tyndrumbytheway.com/activiti ... n-tyndrum/

Do not forget your wellies and a wok!

Happy panning.

The mine in question isn't the big and dangerous working on Sron nan Colan visible from the main road, but the one on Beinn Chuirn beyond Cononish farm. Shows of gold have been panned from several streams flowing from this hill, Ben Lui and Ben Oss. New mine buildings and a tailings dam and reservoir can be seen on Google Earth, along with improved roads. I would guess from the geology that there might be some interest in the region of old workings to the east of Tyndrum, too.

Careful with the panning, there is plenty of "Fool's Gold" (pyrites) in the area, too!
