Roaches - 8-10 Sept

Post by Adam »

Hello Mercians

Bugger. The end of summer is nigh. To celebrate this disappointing turn of events, we have for your enjoyment a weekend in the Don Whillans hut.

As most of you know this is the quirky little hut 30 seconds walk from many of the UK classic climbs (Valkyrie, The Sloth, Black and Tans, the list goes on). If you don't want to climb there are many foot paths in the area to stroll along, and no doubt other things too, but why bother when the climbing is so good.

There are 12 beds in the hut at the price of £11pppn.

I think some folk are going to want to start learning to lead on this meet. Happy to help.

I can make this and would very much like to come along.

My outdoor climbing experience is zero since I was about 15 but thanks to practice at the wall I can at least belay (don't have a device, will see if I can get one by next weekend, pennies are short atm) so am not entirely useless, but will need (and be extremely grateful for!) help and advice, please!

I assume it's a case of bring a sleeping bag (or is it youth hostel style with bedding provided?), self catering and we all sort ourselves out? Anything else I need to know???

Thanks!

Hi Emma (& Ayoxon)

You will need a sleeping bag, mats are provided in the hut. You will also need to bring food with you. Someone usually does a communal evening meal, but there have been no volunteers so far.

On the club home page go to Meets > Your Fist Meet, this should have all you need.

There are also no pillows provided at this hut, Emma. What luxury we had in Corris!

Also, although not far, be prepared to carry your stuff uphill to the hut (head torch would be useful if it's dark).

I'm not committing to attending as I come back from Brussels on Friday evening. However, weather and energy depending, I may come for a day trip.
