New Members

The MMC is an active and friendly club, with a membership of around 60 people. If you’re interested in joining the Mercians, the easiest way to get involved is to join us on a Tuesday or Thursday night at Redpoint / Creation or at The Old Moseley Arms on Tindall Street. Please email us or message on facebook first as locations and times change.

We have members from all walks of life, who have joined the club to meet others with an interest in outdoor activities. These include hill walking, mountaineering, scrambling, rock climbing, snow and ice climbing and occasionally mountain biking, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, geocaching and canoeing. A variety of social events also feature throughout the year including an Annual Dinner and Christmas Dinner.

Some members have climbed, walked and trekked in various places around the world including the Himalaya, the Andes and the Alps. Several members have climbed all of the Scottish Munros and are now working their way through the Corbetts and Grahams. We have members who prefer walking, some who prefer climbing and others who do a bit of everything. Several members had their first experience of climbing with the club, others joined as experienced mountaineers looking for climbing partners. We have a few climbers who enjoy routes up to the lower E grades.

We request that you attend a couple of weekend meets before joining the club. Following that the membership application form is available here, and is emailed to the club secretary. The membership fee (£30 for 2024) includes affiliation to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), providing the benefit of public liability insurance. In addition the membership card can be presented at a number of retailers giving discounts.

Our club is run by an annually elected committee. They plan weekend meets, socials, and generally run the club in accordance with the club constitution.
