The MMC is an active and friendly club, with a membership of around fifty people. New members are always welcome. If you are interested in joining the Mercians please download and print off a membership application form.
We have members from all walks of life, who have joined the club to meet others with an interest in outdoor activities. These include hill walking, mountaineering, scrambling, rock climbing, snow and ice climbing and occasionally mountain biking, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, geocaching and canoeing. A variety of social events also feature throughout the year including an Annual Dinner and Christmas Dinner.
Some members have climbed, walked and trekked in various places around the world including the Himalaya, the Andes and the Alps. Several members have climbed all of the Scottish Munros and are now working their way through the Corbetts and Grahams. We have members who prefer walking, some who prefer climbing and others who do a bit of everything. Several members had their first experience of climbing with the club, others joined as experienced mountaineers looking for climbing partners. We have a few keen climbers who enjoy routes up to the lower E grades.
The easiest way to get involved is to email us or join us on a Thursday night at The Wagon and Horses. You will need to attend two weekend meets as a prospective member to see if you like us and we like you. Then if would like to join you can apply by downloading and completing an application form and passing it to the club Secretary. When the Committee has accepted your application you will be asked to pay the appropriate membership fee for which you will receive a membership card. The membership fee includes affiliation to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) providing the benefit of public liability insurance up to £2 million in any one claim. In addition the membership card can be presented at a number of retailers giving discounts.
