Re: Agnes Spencer Hut, Patterdale 13 - 15 March

Just a note to say how we thoroughly enjoyed the meet, and the fajita was superb! (I am looking online for suitable recipes, that MUST go on my repertoire!) Next time I am packing my ruddy boots FIRST! Brian PS I climbed Binsey and activated it before we came home - and got a suntan, Wednesda...

Re: Agnes Spencer Hut, Patterdale 13 - 15 March

I'll come to the pub tonight to get the key. If the weather is OK we might unpack and then go for a drive (Pauline is no longer able to cover much ground on foot) so the key will be hidden behind the hut (IIRC a rock by the coal store!) but we should be back with the hut warm for when others arrive....

Re: Agnes Spencer Hut, Patterdale 13 - 15 March

What are the arrangements for getting into the hut? We intend to get to Patterdale about lunch time, is anybody else getting there early?

Re: Agnes Spencer Hut, Patterdale 13 - 15 March

About time we showed up - Brian and Pauline. Aiming to get there Friday lunchtime and will go on to Cockermouth Sunday night.

The SOTA guys say there is a fair bit of snow, lets hope it is still there for the meet!

Re: High House, Seatoller, 6 - 8 Feb 15

I'm putting this here rather than on my original thread as it is relevant: The latest from my friend in the south Lakes - "Latest news! The road works and diversions as mentioned will now go ahead on Friday 6th Feb. TOMORROW and the following weekend . Don't hold your breath!" Heavy traffi...

Re: Golden Easter Meet

The mine in question isn't the big and dangerous working on Sron nan Colan visible from the main road, but the one on Beinn Chuirn beyond Cononish farm. Shows of gold have been panned from several streams flowing from this hill, Ben Lui and Ben Oss. New mine buildings and a tailings dam and reservoi...

Re: Lakes road closures.

An update on the above: "Latest news is that because of the fear of ice on the alternative route this weekends efforts were postponed, literally at the last minute. It now seems that they will attempt next weekend and the weekend after but maybe the weekend after that! The works were originally ...

Lakes road closures.

For the benefit of anybody taking a bolt to the south Lakes in the near future, this has appeared on the SOTA Reflector from a resident: "Anyone contemplating Lake District activities this weekend Jan 16th 17th 18th or next weekend 23rd 24th 25th should be aware that roadworks will totally clos...

Re: NEXT MEET - 25/26th October - Froggatt, Derbyshire

We wanted to come to this one but unfortunately the car is booked in for some work on Saturday. :(

FYI the Mercian had a couple of meets at that hut forty years ago, when it was rather more primitive than it appears to be now from the pictures!

Re: Annual Dinner Tan Y Garth / Cobdens 27 September

Have a good time, folks, I would love to be with you but unfortunately the date coincides with our annual trip to the Forest of Dean, and that trip is defined by my eldest son going to the Prog festival at Chepstow.

Re: AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY MEET

Unfortunately doesn't look as if we can make it. Pity, nice area. The club had an organised bash at the Lyke Wake Walk in 1977, much of the moors were still ashes then from the fires that accompanied the drought of 1976. I shall never forget the blisters...!

Re: NEXT MEET - Southern Snowdonia, 9th-10th August

Probably not, Karl, it drizzled all Saturday night, then a cold front came over on Sunday lunch time to brighten things up, followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon, but the wind directions suggest that the source was a depression to the west and Bertha was rampaging to the east. Anyway, three fin...

Re: NEXT MEET - Southern Snowdonia, 9th-10th August

Just a note that the campsite is great, besides the manicured bit with hook-ups shown on the web there are two free and easy overspill fields, and you can even have campfires. I activated Foel Offrwm for SOTA. Where's that? Shows you that SOTA takes you to places off the beaten track! A 1300-foot su...
