Dear Mercians,

It's nearly time for the next meet. We can't possibly have any more storms this year, so I'm assuming this one will be a corker.

The location is the lovely High House hut in Borrowdale. My favourite bit of the Lakes! Loads of walking, climbing and biking on the doorstep and the delights of the Keswick Pencil Museum within a short drive, just in case my weather forecasting turns out to be as crap as my mountaineering.

26 beds, £13 pppn. Sign up below as usual.

I will be in the lakes with work and keen to MTB, looking at hiring a demo bike for the weekend. If the weathe ris good I would also like to try my first spot of outdoor climbing.

I feel ashamed to say I have never climbed outdoors.

unfortunately this meet clashes with the Ceunant AGM so, if that goes ahead I will be in Wales. But I'll be keeping a watching brief on numbers for this meet (My preferred option) if the AGM doesn't happen.

Harry, you should be ashamed. This year you really must climb on rock.

I'm happy to cook! I'm thinking of doing a jambalaya with chorizo. I can easily do a veggie one too if anyone prefers that. Let me know :)

Yes to all food, thankyou Beth.

Would love to get my hands on real rock, but don't want to unnecessarily burden people!

for a bit of background, this hut is in the plum spot for one of Cumbria's most reliable winter climbing venues - Great End. It is best known for climbing on hard snow (hopefully hard, sometime you swim in powder and hastily retreat), some ice, and rock, what is generally referred to as mixed climbing. If it's in condition it's great, and check out the back issue of The Faff that has an article written by Tom Morris on an amazing weekend on Great End (which regrettably I missed). Axe(s) and crampons needed depending on the route.
